Teams of golfers and sponsors are needed for a tournament sponsored by the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office Explorer Post 116.

All proceeds of the tournament will be used for Explorers Post 116, a group of students ages 14 (and out of 8th grade) to 21 who learn about law enforcement.

Advisor Andy Pugh said members will use the funds to pay for the annual Explorers Winterfest competition in Gatlinburg. The sheriff's Explorers earned three awards in February.

"The Explorers is a good way for our youth to learn," Pugh said. "We teach respect, leadership and teamwork. The kids have fun, bond with each other and do good community service work."

Explorer Capt. Maliah Xayachac said the group will use the funds to purchase training needs.

"We want to have every Explorer participate in Winterfest because the experience brought out post together," Maliah said. "This will improve our training and expand our knowledge and help us become better individuals after we depart from the post."

Sponsorship opportunities are for corporate, gold, food, putting contest, practice range and goodie bags along with dedicated hole sponsorship and hole sponsorship. Personal donations are welcome. Deadline is Sept. 1. Checks may be sent to RCSO Explorer Post, 940 New Salem Highway, Murfreesboro, Tenn., 37129, attention: Andy Pugh.

For more information, contact Pugh at 615-427-2220 or Joe Scott at 615-708-3652.
