Riverdale Girls Play for Third Straight State Title

The Riverdale Lady Warriors will battle Houston Saturday for their third straight Class AAA State Championship after defeating Bearden 77-59 in the semifinals at MTSU's Murphy Center.

Senior Amanda Whittington, a MTSU signee, led the team with 20-points, five rebounds and three steals. Coach Randy Coffman says his players don't get caught up with who is having a big game:

With Houston's 52-49 win over Bradley Central, Riverdale will face the Lady Mustangs for the state championship. Riverdale senior Brinae Alexander was asked after her team's win what it would be like playing against other top rated girls players. The Lady Bears with Kentucky signee and Miss Basketball Rhyne Howard or Jayla Hemingway of Houston, a junior ranked 13th nationally:

Riverdale, which has an amazing 24-2 record in state tournament games, is looking for their third consecutive state championship Saturday against Houston. It's their ninth trip to the state tournament and also their ninth trip to the championship game since 1979. They're seeking their seventh state championship since 2007.
