WGNS now knows the identity of the person found shot to death inside a Murfreesboro apartment. Police spokesman Kyle Evans says the Criminal Investigations Division has confirmed the identity of the homicide victim as 20-year old Mikal Shakir of Nashville. Evans says he also resided at 1306 Bradyville Pike G53, the Stones Creek Apartments. Police responded to a burglary Monday and when they arrived, they discovered Shakir shot to death. Evans asks if anyone has information on the homicide to call the Criminal Investigations Division at 893-2717 or Crimestoppers at 893-STOP(7867). Callers can remain anonymous. The Violent Crimes Unit is investigating the case and is currently investigating all leads.

According to Shakir's Facebook page, he was a student at MTSU, expecting to graduate in 2015. He was also a 2011 graduate of Cane Ridge High School in Antioch.
