Several hundred people gathered around the historic Rutherford County Courthouse Sunday (8/13/2017) evening voicing opposition to the violence that has taken place in Charlottesville, Virginia.

The soldier on the Civil War monument on the northeast side of the courthouse was covered with a cloth. In fact, it remained covered Monday morning (see photo below 8/14/2017).

Those there spoke against bigotry and hate and rallied to support "no hate in our state", including Georgia Dennis who tells NewsChannel 5...

One community leader, who asked not to be identified, told WGNS, "The rally embraced the diversity in our community and presented ideas in a peaceful and civil manner."

Those in attendance lit candles, shared opinions, and sang unity songs.

A similar vigil was held in Nashville Saturday evening with a march from the Bicentennial Mall to First Tennessee Park where a Nashville Sounds baseball game was in progress. One was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct when he allegedly jumped in front of a moving police car. Three other Nashville protestors were arrested and charged with minor offenses.

A solidarity rally is scheduled in Franklin on Monday (8/14/2017) evening at 5:00.
