MTSU awaits Oct. 22 'True Blue Tour' recruiting visit to Nashville

Middle Tennessee State University is in the midst of its eighth annual True Blue Tour -- its signature admissions effort covering 14 cities in four states to meet prospective students, their parents, high school counselors and community college staff.

President Sidney A. McPhee and other administrators and staff travel thousands of miles and make five overnight trips to recruit students for 2020 and beyond.

This year's True Blue Tour kicked off for the second consecutive year in Murfreesboro on Aug. 21. The team has already visited Franklin, Clarksville, Johnson City, Knoxville, Huntsville and Birmingham in Alabama and Louisville and Bowling Green in Kentucky.

MTSU will soon be in Nashville for an upcoming tour event Tuesday, Oct. 22, at the Millennium Maxwell House Hotel, 2025 Rosa L. Parks Blvd., in Nashville. MTSU will host a 12:30 p.m. luncheon for counselors and community college staff and a 6 p.m. student reception.

True Blue Tour and on-campus True Blue Previews and daily campus tours are free to attend for high school, homeschool and transfer students, and the luncheons as well for the counselors and community college staff. Tour events include giveaways (registering to win scholarships, Phillips Bookstore gift cards and more), light refreshments and opportunities to speak to representatives about housing, financial aid, academic programs and meet deans and advisers from the various colleges within the university.

In Nashville, McPhee will announce a new guaranteed True Blue Scholarship, worth $8,000 ($2,000 per year for four years) for qualifying students with a 3.5 GPA and an ACT score of 23 or 24.

In 2018, MTSU announced a guaranteed Presidential Scholarship -- $18,000 for four years ($4,500 per year) for qualifying students with a 3.5 GPA and ACT between 25 and 30.
