UPDATE: The Rutherford County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the incident at Christiana Middle School on 231 South. However, the situation was apparently larger than simply being at one school on Monday (9/25/17).

County school spokesperson James Evans stated on Monday, "Rock Springs Middle School in Smyrna received an emailed threat that was directed at Christiana Middle School. Our safety team was notified immediately and students at both schools were evacuated pursuant to safety procedures, which we practice regularly."

Evidently, there was not a threat made against Rock Springs Middle School, but it was evacuated as a precaution and the building was thoroughly searched. The threat was against Christiana Middle School only. Students there were taken to the neighboring elementary school while the middle school was searched thoroughly.

During the day, parents had the option of picking up their children and many of them did in fact arrive early at the school.

On a positive note, law enforcement found nothing out of the ordinary at either school. However, the investigation will continue to hopefully identify those responsible for making the threats.

Evans said, "Because of the ongoing criminal investigation, we have been asked not to share any additional information at this time. But we want to reassure parents that their children are safe. These situations usually turn out to be hoaxes or pranks, but we always take them seriously and follow our safety procedures. These procedures work well when everyone follows them, which is what happened this morning. So again, we want to thank everyone for their cooperation and patience. "

An alleged bomb threat was called into Christiana Middle School on 231 South. The students have since been moved to Christiana Elementary while law enforcement conducts an investigation into the matter.

The schools are allowing for parents to pick their middle school students up early from school if they decide to do so. The sign out for students in middle school will be at the neighboring Christiana Elementary school office.

James Evans, spokesperson for the Rutherford County Schools stated, "Law enforcement is conducting an investigation at Christiana Middle School and the students have been moved to the elementary school as a precaution. If parents want, they can pick up their kids from The elementary school. The Christiana Middle staff is prepared to sign kids out from the elementary school if parents want. No additional informational can be released at this time while the investigation is ongoing."
