UPDATE: Drug Take Back Events in Rutherford County on Saturday

UPDATED - (Rutherford County, Tenn.) Several Drug Take Back events will occur this weekend, one of which will be in La Vergne. There, the La Vergne Police Department announced on Thursday that they once again participate in the October DEA Drug Take Back Day.

This year’s take back event will be on Saturday, October 29 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the La Vergne Police Department behind City Hall at 5093 Murfreesboro Road. Anyone dropping off medication is not required to black out or remove labels.

The Rutherford County Sheriff's Office is also participating in the DEA Drug Take Back, but their event will be held in Murfreesboro on Saturday. Sheriff’s Sgt. Robert Dowell said deputies will collect the expired and unused prescriptions from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 29 at the Sheriff’s Office at 940 New Salem Highway in Murfreesboro. Deputies will accept prescription and over-the-counter drugs. The pills or capsules may be brought in the original containers or in plastic bags. No liquids will be accepted. After the collection, the drugs will be burned.

On that same day between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m., drugs will be taken back outside the Murfreesboro Medical Clinic at 1272 Garrison Drive in Murfreesboro. The take-back event is sponsored by the Tennessee Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, the Prevention Coalition for Success, Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office, Murfreesboro Medical Clinic and TrustPoint Hospital.

For people who cannot participate Saturday, the Sheriff’s Office lobby entrance has a bin collecting the drugs 24 hours a day, seven days a week at the office located at 940 New Salem Highway in Murfreesboro.
