La VERGNE, TN (WGNS) - A simple act of kindness turned into a powerful reminder of what community really means in La Vergne. Members of the La Vergne Police Department joined forces with city staff and local residents to help a 73‑year‑old man living at Music City Campground who had been struggling without air conditioning during the peak of the summer heat.

When officers arrived, they found that the resident didn’t have the financial means to repair his unit and had been trying to get by in the sweltering temperatures. After taking a closer look, they discovered the problem wasn’t a major repair at all—it was a faulty adapter. Once the adapter was removed, the air conditioner kicked back on and was able to run safely.

Still, officers wanted to make sure the gentleman had peace of mind moving forward. One member of the La Vergne Police Department went out and purchased a replacement adapter so the resident would have one on hand if he ever needed it. That small gesture meant the world to him. He was overcome with emotion, expressing deep gratitude and reminding everyone involved that even the smallest kindness can change someone’s day.

Moments like this highlight what La Vergne’s officers say they believe at their core: policing is about more than enforcing laws. It’s about showing up for neighbors, building relationships, and being present when someone needs a helping hand.

City staff, community members, and officers all played a part in making sure one resident didn’t have to face the summer heat alone. And in doing so, they offered a glimpse of what makes La Vergne such a special place—a community where people look out for one another and where compassion is just as important as any badge or uniform.
