SMYRNA, TN (WGNS) - People around Smyrna were asking Wednesday (7/6/2026) why Mack’s Hot Chicken suddenly closed its doors. The popular restaurant on Old Nashville Highway shared that one of its employees “was the victim of a violent and traumatic incident” at the location the day before.

In a Facebook post, the employee described what happened, saying, “A customer physically attacked me and then attempted to use her vehicle to run me over in our parking lot.” Several witnesses, including families with children, reportedly saw the confrontation unfold.

The restaurant followed with a message to the community, explaining that the incident occurred Tuesday, July 7, 2026. The owners wrote that in nearly nine years of serving Smyrna, they had never experienced anything like this. They said, "They were grateful to be physically safe, but emotionally shaken."

“For the safety of our family and our customers, law enforcement has been involved and is actively handling the situation,” the post continued. “Because of everything that has happened, we need (to rest Wednesday) to mentally and emotionally recover before reopening.”

The restaurant apologized for any inconvenience but emphasized that their family’s well‑being had to come first. They thanked customers for their prayers, kindness, and continued support, adding that they feel blessed to be part of such an incredible community.

Mack’s Hot Chicken expects to reopen Thursday and resume serving the customers who have supported them through nearly a decade in Smyrna.
