MURFREESBORO, TN (WGNS) - Linebaugh Public Library is rolling out the welcome mat for award‑winning novelist Shelley Shepard Gray, who will speak, answer questions, and sign books at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at the downtown library. Gray arrives with two fresh releases—D is for Daisy and The Unexpected Caller—adding to a career that already includes more than 100 inspirational and Amish romance novels.

With over 2 million books in print and translations in more than a dozen languages, Gray has built a devoted readership across the country. Her work has earned the Holt Medallion and landed as a finalist for the Christy, Inspirational Readers’ Choice, and Carol awards. Around Linebaugh, she’s a familiar favorite.

“Coming up with an idea and finishing a manuscript is only part of writing, and difficult as that is, it probably isn’t even the hardest part,” said David O’Flaherty, a supervisor at Linebaugh Library. “Breaking into publishing can be a discouraging experience. Shelley Shepard Gray is well placed to inspire our local novelists just as she has our romance readers. She’s one of the most popular authors in the library’s collection. I see her work constantly passing across the circulation desk.”

Gray’s presentation, “How to Get Published and Stay Published,” aims to give aspiring writers a realistic, encouraging look at the publishing world—something many local storytellers are eager to hear.

Registration is required. Patrons can sign up by visiting the events calendar at rclstn.org, selecting July 25, and scanning the event’s QR code. Those who prefer the phone can call Linebaugh Library at 615‑893‑4131 ext. 115.

Linebaugh Library has served Rutherford County since 1948, offering resources, technology, and programs that help residents explore, imagine, and engage. The library is located at 105 W. Vine St. in the downtown Murfreesboro historic business district.
