WOODBURY, TN (WGNS) - The spotlight is shining a little brighter this coming Friday and Sunday (July 24 and 26) as performers from the St. Clair Senior Center step into the world of Broadway classics with a special production of Guys and Dolls, SR. at the Arts Center of Cannon County, 1424 John Bragg Highway in neighboring Woodbury. The show pairs timeless music and familiar characters with the energy, humor, and heart of local
seniors from Murfreesboro who have spent weeks rehearsing, laughing, and building a show that’s as much about community as it is about theater. Performances are 6:30PM this coming Friday, and a 2:00PM matinee on Sunday, July 26, 2026. Tickets are $10 and available by calling the theatre at (615) 563-ARTS (2787).
The production's Co-Director and Music Director Patrick Jones told WGNS News...
The senior cast brings fresh personality to the classic Broadway musical, trading the high‑stakes of a New York hustle for something far more charming: the joy of performing together. Audiences can expect all the favorites—Sky Masterson, Nathan Detroit, Miss Adelaide, and Sarah Brown—played with a wink, a grin, and the kind of stage presence that only comes from a lifetime of stories.
Staff at the St. Clair Senior Center say the production has been a highlight of the summer, giving participants a chance to stretch their creative muscles while forming new friendships. The Arts Center of Cannon County has embraced the project as well, offering professional support and a welcoming stage for the senior actors.

Funding for the production was made possible through a Nashville Predators Foundation Helper Grant, which supports the Arts Center’s community outreach along with its youth and senior programming. The Arts Center also operates as a nonprofit, backed by local sponsorships and statewide support from the Tennessee Arts Commission.
Every performer in this “Guys and Dolls, SR” adaptation is age 60 or older, giving area seniors the chance to be the primary creators, singers, and storytellers. The show keeps the 1950 Broadway plot intact, set in Damon Runyon’s mythical New York City. It follows small‑time gambler Nathan Detroit as he scrambles to fund his legendary floating craps game, while high‑roller Sky Masterson unexpectedly falls for a straight‑laced neighborhood missionary.
Jones feels that the quality of this weekend's performance will open the door for more SR shows, giving older adults the chance to enjoy “the smell of the greasepaint and the roar of the crowd.”
Performances run this Friday and Sunday only, and organizers say the show is perfect for families, theater lovers, and anyone who enjoys seeing local talent take on a classic. The cast promises plenty of laughs, memorable songs, and a reminder that creativity doesn’t retire—it just finds new ways to take center stage.

Tickets are available by phoning the Arts Center of Cannon County at (615) 563-ARTS (2787). Don't miss Guys and Dolls, SR. this weekend in Woodbury.
