MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS News) - Get your appetite for Beaver Nuggets ready. Construction on Murfreesboro’s massive new Buc-ee’s appears to be moving steadily toward completion, bringing the popular travel center closer to opening along Interstate 24.
Current reports point to a tentative opening date of November 16, 2026, although Buc-ee’s has not publicly confirmed that date as final. The company has previously targeted a late-2026 opening, while the City of Murfreesboro has indicated that the location is expected to open in November.
The new travel center is being constructed on approximately 47 acres near the Interstate 24 and Joe B. Jackson Parkway interchange. Plans call for a store measuring roughly 74,000 to 75,000 square feet, along with 120 fueling positions, electric-vehicle charging stations and approximately 490 parking spaces. The development also includes 15 larger spaces for recreational vehicles and buses, as well as a planned walking trail.
Once open, the Murfreesboro store is expected to offer the products that have helped Buc-ee’s develop a dedicated following, including Beaver Nuggets, freshly prepared brisket, jerky, fudge, baked goods and a wide range of branded merchandise. The chain is also widely known for its expansive stores, large fueling areas and carefully maintained restrooms.
While the Murfreesboro location will be among the chain’s largest travel centers, it will not take the title of the world’s largest Buc-ee’s.
That distinction was briefly held by Tennessee. When the Sevierville Buc-ee’s opened near Interstate 40 at Exit 407 in June 2023, the 74,707-square-foot store became the company’s largest location. It features 120 fueling positions, electric-vehicle chargers and a 250-foot-long car wash near the gateway to the Great Smoky Mountains.
Tennessee’s bragging rights lasted for approximately one year. In June 2024, Buc-ee’s opened a new location in Luling, Texas, measuring approximately 75,593 square feet—only 886 square feet larger than the Sevierville store. The Luling location also features 120 fueling positions and the chain’s familiar selection of food, merchandise and travel conveniences.
Although Murfreesboro’s store may fall slightly short of the size record, it will still represent one of the largest retail and travel developments at the Joe B. Jackson Parkway interchange. With construction advancing and hiring efforts already underway, the countdown to brisket sandwiches, Beaver Nuggets and around-the-clock fuel service is getting shorter.
