UPDATE: Two Victims Stable After Murfreesboro Apartment Shooting; Police Seek Suspects

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS)- Two people injured in a Monday evening shooting at a Murfreesboro apartment complex are in stable condition as detectives continue working to identify the people responsible.

The Murfreesboro Police Department said the shooting happened around 6:14 p.m. Monday, Aug. 10, at Brookwood Apartments on South Rutherford Boulevard. An 18-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to his upper middle back, while a 19-year-old woman was grazed by a bullet in the neck area. Both victims were listed in stable condition Tuesday.

Police said the victims were found at a nearby location in the area of North Rutherford Boulevard and Halls Hill Pike after leaving the apartment complex. The official police release refers to the roadway as “Halls Hills Pike,” although the Murfreesboro roadway is Halls Hill Pike.

According to the preliminary investigation, the two victims were visiting a friend at the apartment complex when two individuals allegedly began shooting at their car. Both occupants were injured in the gunfire. Police said a truck parked at the apartment complex was also struck by gunfire.

Detectives with MPD’s Criminal Investigations Division have interviewed several tenants and are reviewing surveillance video from the apartment complex as they work to identify the suspects.

According to the Murfreesboro Police Department, the shooting happened shortly after 6:15 p.m. Monday, Aug. 10, at Brookwood Terrace Apartments in the 2700 block of South Rutherford Boulevard.

Police said two victims were taken to a hospital for treatment. The nature and severity of their injuries had not been released as of Monday evening.

Detectives with MPD’s Criminal Investigations Division are working to retrieve surveillance video from the area in an effort to identify a suspect.

Police announced around 8:15 p.m. that the main entrance to the apartment complex was closed until further notice as the investigation continued. Apartment management opened the rear entrance for tenants needing access to the property.
