TAYLOR, Mich. (WGNS) - The Murfreesboro Little League team saw its remarkable championship run come to an end Wednesday (August 12th) following a heartbreaking 3-2 loss to Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin.

Murfreesboro starting pitcher Eli Goodman delivered a stellar performance on the mound, matching Wisconsin frame for frame in a tense defensive battle. Both squads broke through in the fourth inning to break a scoreless tie. Wisconsin took the lead in the top half of the fourth on an RBI single from Adrian Van Caster, but Murfreesboro answered immediately in the bottom half when KJ Taylor drove in a run with an RBI single.

The game remained locked at 1-1 until the top of the sixth inning, when Wisconsin sent eight batters to the plate and brought across two runs off an RBI single from Van Caster and a bases-loaded walk to Hudson Fox.

Down 3-1 in the bottom of the seventh, Murfreesboro refused to go down without a fight. Lead-off hitter Brennon Thomas crushed the first pitch of the inning over the right-center field fence for a solo home run, cutting the deficit to 3-2.

After a running catch in right field robbed KJ Taylor of a hit and Ames Taylor flew out to the center field warning track, Murfreesboro rallied down to its final strike. Frankie Hyland single to right field to extend the game, prompting Wisconsin to bring in relief pitcher Tyler Arnold. Charlie Newburry followed with a single to left-center field, moving Hyland to second as the tying run and putting Newburry on first as the potential winning run.

The comeback effort ended when Arnold grounded out to Goodman, securing the victory for Wisconsin.

Despite the late-inning heartbreak, the Murfreesboro squad represented Rutherford County with grit, heart, and pride on the national stage, finishing as one of the elite youth baseball teams in the country.
