MORE DETAILS: MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS News) - Two people are facing felony charges after Murfreesboro Police Department detectives investigated complaints involving an alleged illegal massage operation on Lascassas Pike. According to the MPD, detectives with the department’s Special Investigation Section arrested Guang Tian and Yiping Zhao after executing search warrants at Better Life Massage and at the business owner’s residence on Friday, Aug. 13. Better Life Massage is located in the Kroger shopping complex at the intersection of Highway 96 (Lascassas Pike) and North Rutherford Boulevard. Scroll down for enlarged photo.

Police said the investigation began after detectives received numerous complaints concerning Better Life Massage. Investigators later determined that workers at the business allegedly did not have the licenses required by the State of Tennessee to legally provide massage services.

According to court records, both live together on North Rutherford Boulevard in Murfreesboro. Their apartment, which was the secondary location where search warrants were executed, is about 2.3 miles from the alleged illegal massage operation. A date that the business first opened is not available, but WGNS did find that they do have at least 4-years of Google Reviews online, most of which were positive. The most recent review was within the past 7-days.

Evidently, 55-year-old Zhao moved to Murfreesboro from California, while 63-year-old Tian already lived here and documents show that he had a Tennessee driver’s license.

Tian and Zhao were both charged with felony impersonation of a licensed professional. Tian is being held at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center on a $20,000 bond, while Zhao’s bond was set at $15,000. As of Monday afternoon (08/17/26), both remained behind bars. The two are scheduled to appear before General Sessions Judge Lisa Eischeid on September 16, 2026. They are facing Class E felonies.
