Four Rutherford County Teams Claim Top Spots in TSWA Preseason Prep Football State Poll

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) - Four Rutherford County high school football programs earned spots in the state's initial preseason rankings released on Monday (August 17th) by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association.

Rutherford County teams established heavy dominance in Class 6A, claiming three of the top ten spots in the state's largest classification. Oakland High School leads the state at number one after securing 19 first-place votes and 208 total points. Riverdale High School followed closely behind at number two with two first-place votes and 190 total points. Blackman High School made it three local programs in the Class 6A top ten, placing sixth overall with 107 total points.

Outside of Division I, Middle Tennessee Christian School represented Rutherford County in the Division II-A rankings. MTCS earned 16 total points in the voting to place sixth overall, trailing Donelson Christian Academy by just two points.
