SMYRNA, Tenn. (WGNS) - Longtime Smyrna resident Matt Ford has officially announced his candidacy for the Smyrna Town Council. Running on a campaign principle of putting the local community first, Ford is focusing his platform on property taxes and infrastructure management across Rutherford County.
CAMPAIGN ANNOUNCEMENT
Ford stated he opposes raising property taxes, citing concerns over the rising cost of living facing local families. He noted that high-density growth creates strains on local infrastructure, pointing to worsening traffic and new high-density developments. Ford added that he opposes further annexation for high-density projects until municipal infrastructure keeps pace.
Currently, Ford serves on the Town of Smyrna's Stormwater Advisory Committee and previously served on the Charity Assistance Board. He served as a commissioner for the Smyrna Baseball League in 2023 and continues to coach multiple youth baseball teams each season.
A resident of the Smyrna area for over 25 years, Ford operates The Ford Agency, a local Country Financial office offering insurance and financial services. He is married to Alli Ford, and together they have five children and attend LifePoint Church's Stewarts Creek Campus.
