Rutherford County Prep Football Claims Three of Top Five Spots in Class 6A Poll

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) - Rutherford County continues to dominate the Class 6A rankings as the Tennessee Sports Writers Association released its second statewide prep poll of the season following Week 1 play. Local programs secured three of the top five positions in Class 6A, while Middle Tennessee Christian School earned recognition in Division II-A.

The Oakland Patriots swept all 22 first-place votes to firmly hold the No. 1 spot in Class 6A with 220 points and distance themselves in the poll. Oakland kicked off its campaign by routing CPA 56-7 to move to 1-0.

The Riverdale Warriors sit at No. 3 in Class 6A (161 points). Riverdale stands at 0-1 on the season after falling 19-14 in a tight road battle at Knoxville Catholic.

The Blackman Blaze made a significant move up the Class 6A poll, surging to No. 5 (135 points). Blackman opened its season with a 29-10 victory over Clarksville.

Ravenwood holds the No. 2 spot in Class 6A (194 points), while Maryville ranks No. 4 (155 points). Rounding out the Class 6A top ten are Oak Ridge at No. 6 (88 points), Southwind at No. 7 (82 points), Antioch at No. 8 (72 points), Brentwood at No. 9 (55 points), and Houston at No. 10 (18 points), with Collierville receiving votes (17 points).

In Division II-A, Middle Tennessee Christian School picked up votes (13 points) in the poll following a dominant 47-12 victory over Ezell-Harding. MTCS sits just outside the top five in the division. Nashville Christian leads Division II-A at No. 1 with 22 first-place votes (110 points), followed by Friendship Christian (83 points), University School of Jackson (69 points), Donelson Christian Academy (34 points), and Jackson Christian (21 points).
