MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) - The Center for the Arts (CFTA) finished critical roof and HVAC upgrades at its historic downtown facility following the receipt of a $48,585 Capital Maintenance and Improvements Grant.

The grant funding came through a direct appropriation from the Tennessee General Assembly and was administered by the Tennessee State Museum to support eligible museums and nonprofit cultural groups across the state.

CFTA crew members used the funding to tackle two urgent building repairs: stopping water intrusion through roof improvements and upgrading the overall HVAC system. These projects preserve the structure, safeguard ongoing exhibitions, and create a more comfortable environment for local patrons, students, artists, volunteers, and staff.

Executive Director Regina Ward expressed gratitude to state leaders for investing in the local landmark. Ward emphasized that maintaining a historic building demands ongoing investment, and this grant ensures CFTA can continue welcoming thousands of Rutherford County residents each year for theater, visual arts, education, and community events.

The facility, located at 110 W. College Street, carries deep local history. Built in 1909, the structure originally housed Murfreesboro's first United States Post Office and later served as the Linebaugh Library. Today, the venue hosts theatrical productions, gallery exhibitions, youth and adult arts classes, school field trips, and cultural events.

Ward noted that while roof and climate-control work happens behind the scenes, the physical impact safeguards the artwork, equipment, and building for everyone who steps through the doors.
