Sonny Gray Pitching in Majors

Jul 10, 2013 at 05:00 am by Bryan Barrett

Another local baseball player will be pitching in the big leagues. Former Smyrna High and Vanderbilt standout Sonny Gray was called up by the Oakland A's yesterday (Tuesday) from the Sacramento River Cats. The 23-year old was a first round draft pick by the A's in 2011 and has been a starting pitcher for the River Cats this year, posting an 8-and-5 record. Gray will join Tampa Bay Rays pitcher and reigning American League Cy Young Award winner David Price, who prepped at Blackman, as pitchers in the majors.
