MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) - Three members of the Murfreesboro City Schools (MCS) Board of Directors took their oaths of office Tuesday before the board selected its leadership team for the upcoming term.

Incumbent board members Amanda Moore, Barbara Long, and Karen Dodd officially swore in to begin their new terms on the board. Following the ceremony, board members voted unanimously to retain Amanda Moore as Board Chair and Butch Campbell as Vice Chair. Moore and Campbell will continue to lead the seven-member board as it directs policies and priorities for local public schools.

"The work of public education depends on strong leadership and a shared commitment to students, families, and staff," said Director of Schools Dr. Trey Duke. "We are grateful for the service of these dedicated board members and look forward to continuing the important work of providing exceptional educational opportunities for every child we serve."

The MCS Board of Directors includes Chair Amanda Moore, Vice Chair Butch Campbell, Barbara Long, Karen Dodd, David Settles, Jimmy Richardson III, and Jeanette Price. Together, the group manages strategy and oversight for the district. The Tennessee School Boards Association recently awarded the group the Board of Distinction Award, recognizing the board for excellence in leadership, policy development, and continuous improvement.

"I am honored by the confidence my fellow board members have placed in me, and I look forward to continuing our work together on behalf of Murfreesboro City Schools,” Chair Amanda Moore said.

The district serves nearly 9,000 PreK through sixth-grade students across 13 schools and 15 campuses in Rutherford County.
