MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) - The Child Advocacy Center is bringing the community together this week to help victims of child abuse and child sexual abuse across Rutherford County. The organization will host its 9th annual Light Up the Night end-of-summer fundraiser on Friday (September 11th) from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Middle Tennessee Association of Realtors building, located at 311 Butler Drive in Murfreesboro.
Individual tickets cost $125 and guests are encouraged to wear white to the event. The evening features entertainment from Austin Audio, casino games played with fun money, dancing, heavy hors d’oeuvres from Demo’s Restaurant, and an open bar with alcohol provided by Tito’s Vodka and Old Fort Liquors. Attendees can also bid on a silent auction featuring items from the Nashville Predators, Vanderbilt Commodores, Belle Meade Winery, Montana Silversmiths, and Noko Nashville.
Every ticket purchased and dollar raised directly supports crisis intervention services and child sexual abuse prevention trainings that teach adults and children how to recognize, react, and respond to abuse. Last year, the event raised over $30,000 for local children dealing with trauma.
The Child Advocacy Center works as a team with the Department of Children’s Services (DCS), local law enforcement agencies, Our Kids Center, and the District Attorney’s Office. Together, these agencies investigate crimes, prosecute offenders, and help families rebuild their lives.
"Child sexual abuse and other crimes against children often occur in the dark. This event brings to light the serious issue of crimes against children," said Child Advocacy Center Director Sharon De Boer. "Come out, enjoy a magnificent end of the summer party, and support our community's youngest and most vulnerable citizens."
