MURFREESBORO, TN (WGNS) - There’s new information from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation about that officer‑involved shooting that took place Friday night (9/11/2026) at the Clarion Inn and Suites on the Old Fort Parkway at I-24. TBI has now confirmed more of the timeline and circumstances.

According to investigators, MPD officers arrived around 6:50 p.m. at the Clarion Inn to serve a warrant related to violation of bond conditions. When officers approached the man they were looking for, they found him armed with a hatchet. Agents say he refused repeated verbal commands to drop the weapon and instead advanced toward officers. At that point, four officers fired their weapons, striking him. He was taken to a nearby hospital and is currently listed in stable condition.

As is standard in Tennessee, the TBI was requested by 16th Judicial District Attorney General Jennings Jones to step in as the independent fact‑finding agency. Their role is to determine what happened — not whether the shooting was justified. That decision will come later from the District Attorney once the investigative file is complete.

TBI agents spent Friday night and much of the weekend interviewing witnesses, collecting evidence, and piecing together the sequence of events. They emphasized again that they do not release the names of officers involved in these types of incidents, leaving that decision to the department itself.
