SHELBYVILLE, Tenn. (WGNS) - About 20-minutes south of Rutherford County in Shelbyville,  authorities are investigating a series of vehicle burglaries and thefts reported across Shelbyville and surrounding areas, with investigators now working to identify the owners of property recovered during the investigation.

According to a release on social media by Shelbyville Police, the Shelbyville Police Department and Bedford County Sheriff’s Office are jointly investigating the incidents, which have occurred at multiple locations within both the city and county.

Police said law enforcement officers have recovered property believed to be connected to the burglaries and thefts. However, some of those items have not yet been matched with their rightful owners.

Authorities are asking anyone who believes they were the victim of an auto burglary but has not yet filed a report to contact the non-emergency number for the law enforcement agency with jurisdiction where the theft occurred.

According to the Shelbyville Police release, “When contacting us, please be prepared to provide a description of the missing property and, if available, identifying information such as serial numbers, photographs, receipts, or other documentation establishing ownership.”

Investigators are also asking potential victims not to post detailed descriptions of stolen or missing property publicly on social media. Police may need those details to help establish ownership before recovered items can be released.

“Please do not publicly post detailed descriptions of your missing property in the comments. Investigators may need to verify ownership before releasing recovered property,” Shelbyville Police stated in the release.
