RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. (WGNS) - Rutherford County tourism leader Barbara Wolke earned regional recognition for her work driving economic growth through travel and hospitality. The Southeast Tourism Society named Wolke a 2026 Shooting Star Award recipient.
The Shooting Stars Award program honors 40 tourism professionals across the Southeast who make a meaningful impact on the industry through leadership, innovation, and collaboration. Honorees represent several sectors in the travel industry and earn selection based on their role in shaping its future.
Wolke joined the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce and the Rutherford County Convention and Visitors Bureau in 2003. She played an instrumental role in growing the local tourism industry and expanding Rutherford County's reputation as a destination for leisure travel, sports, meetings, and events. Under her leadership, the bureau received numerous industry awards and partnered with local groups to attract visitors, events, and tourism investments across the county.
"Barbara has played an important role in the growth of tourism in Rutherford County and in building strong partnerships across the industry," said Paul Latture, president of the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce. "This recognition reflects her years of leadership and the work of our tourism team to promote Rutherford County and support the continued growth of our visitor economy."
Wolke's influence extends beyond local borders. The Tennessee Commissioner of Tourist Development appointed her to serve on the Tennessee Tourism Committee. She also serves on several boards and committees supporting tourism and hospitality, including the Rutherford County Wayfinding Signage Program, Middle Tennessee State University’s Hospitality and Tourism Program advisory board, and Play TN Sports.
The Chamber also recognized the work of the entire Rutherford County Convention and Visitors Bureau team, whose ongoing efforts promote local attractions, events, hospitality partners, and community assets throughout the county. The Southeast Tourism Society represents tourism professionals throughout the region, focusing on education, advocacy, professional development, and industry recognition.
