City Traffic Engineer Ram Balachandran doesn't let a holiday slow him down. Here is his report of potential traffic challenges in the 'Boro for the period of July 3rd through the 9th.

Manson Pike/Fortress Blvd Realignment Project

Expected Lane Closures:  The traffic has been shifted to the north side on Medical Center Pkwy/Manson Pike between I-24 and Fortress Blvd.  The contractor is working on the south side in preparation of shifting all the traffic to the newly built section of Fortress Blvd.  Westbound traffic on Manson Pike will be reduced to two lanes.  There will be appropriate traffic controls in place and minor traffic signal modifications at Medical Center Pkwy/Manson Pike and I-24.  Work continues, minor traffic interruptions. 

Fortress Blvd Widening Project (Between Blaze Drive and the new Manson/Fortress Intersection)

Expected Lane Closures:   Wednesday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM:  The traffic has been reduced to two lanes (one lane each direction) on Fortress Blvd between Blaze Drive and Puckett Creek Crossing.  The contactor will begin paving binder course on the west side of Fortress Blvd.  There will be minor lane closures and traffic interruptions.

CCTV Monitoring System Project

Expected Lane Closures:   Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM:  The contractor for the CCTV expansion project will be installing new power services and fiber/cameras along Medical Center Pkwy.  Work continues, minor traffic interruptions.

Maney Avenue Street Improvement Project (between SE Broad Street and College Street)

 

Expected Road Closures:  Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 4:00 PM:  Road construction work continues along Maney Avenue between Broad Street and E Castle St.  This section is closed to through traffic including the intersection of Maney Avenue and Castle StreetAccess drives to the local residents and businesses will be kept open at all times. Motorists are advised to use Highland Ave and Academy Street travelling north/south and State Street and Vine Street travelling east/west.   Work continues with road closures  

Obrien Drive Sewer Construction Project (Between Bradyville Pike and Winston Place)

Expected Lane Closures:  Thursday, 9AM – 3:30 PM:  The contractor will be milling Obrien Drive in preparation to paving the street.  

 

Lytle Creek Sewer Replacement Project (Intersection of Hickerson Drive and West Castle Street)

 

Expected Lane Closures:  Monday - Friday:  South Walnut from West Castle to the dead end section will be closed to traffic for three weeks.  Final surfacing will be done at a later time.  Detour signs will be in-place.  Work has begun on both sides of S. Church Street near Lytle Creek.  Work continues, minor traffic interruptions.

 

AT&T Fiber Optic Project (Broad Street between Middle Tennessee and Academy St)

 

Expected NO Lane Closures:  Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM:  The contractor for AT&T will be installing underground fiber optic cables along the east side of Broad Street.  There will be no lane closures.  All work will be done off-street with minor interruptions at driveway entrances and exits.  Work continues, minor traffic interruptions.

 

Veterans Pkwy (New section between Barfield Road/Kimbro Road and Barfield Crescent Road)

 

Expected NO Lane Closures:  Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM:  The contractor will be performing clearing and grubbing work off the street between Barfield Road and Barfield Crescent Road.  There will be no lane closures.  Expect minor truck traffic interruptions entering and exiting the roadway.   Work continues, minor traffic interruptions.

 

Mercury Blvd (between Rutherford Blvd and Broad Street)

 

Expected Lane Closures:  Monday and Thursday, 9 AM to 3:00 PM:  Contractor for Murfreesboro Electric Department will be trimming tree limbs around utility power poles on Mercury Blvd between Rutherford Blvd and Broad Street. There will be a moving lane closure Mercury Blvd.  Arrow board and proper traffic controls will be in place.

 

Comcast Fiber Optic Project (Haynes Drive between Memorial Blvd and Regenwood Drive & Regenwood Drive between Haynes Drive and Sulphur Springs Road)

 

Expected Road Closures:  Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM:  The contractor for Comcast will be installing fiber optic cables along Haynes Drive and Regenwood Drive.  There will be a moving lane closure on Haynes Drive and Regenwood Drive between Memorial Blvd and Sulphur Springs Road.  Arrow board and proper traffic controls will be in place. 

 

Tree Removal Work (N Academy between Lytle Street and Burton Street)

 

Expected Road Closures:  Thursday, 8:00 AM to 12 Noon:  Tree Care Company will be removing a tree at 319 N Academy Street located between Lytle Street and Burton Street.  N Academy Street will be close to through traffic.  Access to local residents will be kept open.  Appropriate traffic controls and detour signs will be in-place.

 

Sewer Improvement Project (W Lytle Street, N Maple Street, N Walnut Street and W College Street)

 

Expected Lane Closures:  Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 3:00 PM:  Sewer improvement work will be performed on W Lytle St, N Maple St, N Walnut St and W College St all on the north and west of the public square.  There will be partial lane closures and traffic interruptions. 

 

Sanitary Sewer Project (Sulphur Springs Road just south of Clays Mill Drive)

 

Expected Lane Closures:  Tuesday – Friday, 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM:  The contractor for City Water & Sewer Department will be installing new sewer line across Sulphur Springs Road just south of Clays Mill Drive.  There will be flagman at both ends of the closure to regulate traffic. Appropriate traffic controls will be in place. 

 

Red Light Camera Project

Rutherford Blvd and Mercury Blvd

S Church Street and Broad Street

Expected NO Lane Closures:  Tuesday – Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM:  The contractor will be installing pole foundations and performing underground utility work at the above intersections.   The will be minor traffic interruptions and no lane closures.
