MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) - Middle Tennessee State University head football coach Derek Mason received an official reprimand from Conference USA following a heated Monday press conference where he blasted league officiating.

The disciplinary action came after the Blue Raiders dropped their CUSA opener 23-13 against Jacksonville State on Saturday. During his weekly media briefing, Mason stated he submitted video footage of more than 17 uncalled holding infractions committed by Jacksonville State that went unpenalized by the refereeing crew.

"I just had some serious dialogue about the referee calls in this damn ball game," Mason said Monday. "I'm tired of the bulls***. Excuse my french, I'm tired. At the end of the day, we've gotta get to a point where these damn referees show up and do their damn job."

In the 10-point loss, Jacksonville State gained 517 total yards of offense, including 276 rushing yards. Game officials flagged Jacksonville State just three times for 30 yards—none of which were holding penalties. Meanwhile, Middle Tennessee was penalized seven times, losing 55 yards.

Conference USA rules strictly prohibit coaches and institutional personnel from publicly criticizing officiating, requiring all feedback to go directly through the league office. The conference confirmed the formal reprimand on Monday afternoon, citing sportsmanship policy violations.

The Blue Raiders (2-2, 0-1 CUSA) look to bounce back as they hit the road to face the Kansas Jayhawks on Saturday.
