Hairstyling Payment Dispute Leads to Kidnapping, Robbery Charges in Murfreesboro

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS News) – Officers with the Murfreesboro Police Department (MPD) have arrested a woman accused of robbing and kidnapping a man after he encountered difficulties withdrawing money from an ATM to pay her for hairstyling services. Police report that Makayla Brown, 19, faces charges of especially aggravated kidnapping and aggravated robbery following her arrest on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2026.

According to the 23-year-old victim, Brown and several men entered his car and accompanied him to various locations as he attempted, without success, to withdraw money to pay her. The victim reported being robbed at gunpoint and dragged into an apartment on St. Andrews Drive after the group took his phone and car keys. He managed to escape by jumping from the apartment balcony and running to a nearby store to call police.

Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division and members of the Special Operations Unit (SOU) executed a warrant at the apartment, where they recovered two firearms and the victim’s car keys. The investigation remains ongoing, and additional arrests may be forthcoming.

Brown remains in custody at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center with bond set at $40,000. Her hearing is scheduled for Dec. 17 in General Sessions Court.
