Local nonprofit Special Kids will be presented with a $25,000 check from State Farm on Wednesday, July 24, at the Camp Ability of Special Kids Luncheon held at North Boulevard Church of Christ in Murfreesboro.

Special Kids won the grant for the second consecutive year through online facebook voting in State Farm’s Neighborhood Assist program. The giving initiative distributed $25,000 to the top 40 causes from 200 finalists selected by the State Farm Youth Advisory Board. Special Kids garnered over 52,500 votes and placed sixth in the top 40 grant winners.

“We are so thankful that State Farm is providing us with the opportunity to meet the needs of our families,” said Special Kids Director of Development, Stephanie Folkmann. “The grant will help us provide more comprehensive support to our families and be a better resource in the community.”

Special Kids won the grant to expand its family services department. The department focuses on serving and educating families who have children with special needs in order to help them better function in the community. The grant will go to further educate the staff, hire additional staff, and implement an intensive case management process.

The initiative utilizes the State Farm Youth Advisory Board to vet submissions for causes and allows Facebook users who download the free State Farm Neighborhood Assist application to vote for the final 40 grant winners. The program has been inspired by the incredible number of neighborhoods that are coming together to solve a problem or improve their community.
