MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) - The City Schools Foundation has awarded $56,036 in grants to educators across Murfreesboro City Schools, delivering new classroom tools that go beyond standard taxpayer funding.

This year, the foundation selected 56 individual grant proposals for funding. The individual awards range from $83.95 to $3,500, sending money directly to classrooms for hands-on learning, technology upgrades, literacy, STEM, music, and specialized instructional materials.

Local educators submitted detailed proposals explaining how requested resources would improve learning for their students. Members of the foundation Grant Committee then reviewed and scored each proposal anonymously based on project merit.

"Reading and scoring these proposals is one of the most rewarding responsibilities as a foundation board member," said David Scott, Grant Committee Chair. "Thanks to the dedication and fundraising efforts of our board, we were able to fund over $56,000 in grants this year. It’s inspiring to see how these resources will enrich learning for students."

The funded projects give local students opportunities to study life cycles, complete science investigations, build coding skills through STEAM activities, learn geography, participate in movement and music, and utilize accessible learning setups. The investments cover individual school projects as well as districtwide programs across Rutherford County.

"The work of the foundation makes a tremendous impact on our schools," said Dr. Trey Duke, Director of Schools. "The dedication of the individuals serving on the foundation board is unquestionable, and their continued support is invaluable to the students and teachers of Murfreesboro."

The City Schools Foundation is a local nonprofit created to support Murfreesboro City Schools by raising community funds for educational resources that directly benefit students and teachers.
