MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) - An automatic license plate reader alerted Murfreesboro Police Department (MPD) officers to a stolen pickup truck, resulting in the arrest of a man and woman with outstanding warrants.
An MPD officer patrolling South Rutherford Boulevard near John Bragg Highway received an alert from the ALPR about a stolen white Chevrolet 1500. After confirming with dispatch that the pickup was listed as stolen in the National Crime Information Center database, the officer conducted a felony traffic stop.
The driver, 43-year-old Kenneth Phillips, was taken into custody and charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle on Sunday (October 4th). The passenger, 34-year-old Dorothy White, took off running during the stop, but responding officers quickly apprehended her after a brief foot pursuit. Police charged White with possession of drug paraphernalia, evading arrest, and resisting arrest. Both individuals had active outstanding warrants at the time of the stop.
The pickup had been reported stolen in Rutherford County. Deputies from the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office (RCSO) assisted at the scene and returned the vehicle to its registered owner.
Phillips and White are being held at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center. Bond for Phillips is set at $15,000, while bond for White is set at $7,500. Both are scheduled to appear in General Sessions Court on November 10th.
