SMYRNA, Tenn. (WGNS) - Lifelong Smyrna resident and longtime Town Council member H.G. Cole has announced he is seeking reelection to the Smyrna Town Council.

Cole recently retired following more than 40 years as a local business owner. He began working at his family's pharmacy before opening LubePro's of Smyrna. Cole stated that running a small business taught him lessons in managing expenses, planning ahead, and making responsible choices—principles he brings to his service on the Town Council.

Looking toward another term, Cole noted that overseeing the completion of major town projects remains a top priority. His focus areas include transportation, public safety, managed growth, parks, and preserving Smyrna’s overall quality of life.

Key transportation efforts highlight ongoing work with state officials on Sam Ridley Parkway improvements from Old Nashville Highway to Lowry Street, planned upgrades to Almaville Road, and roadway projects serving Smyrna’s west side near Rocky Fork Road and Cooks Lane.

In addition to road improvements, the Town Council has prioritized competitive compensation to recruit and retain police officers and firefighters, expanding water and sewer infrastructure for residential, commercial, and industrial needs, and advancing downtown revitalization efforts.

Parks and recreation remain a personal passion for Cole. As a former Commissioner of Parks and Recreation, Cole helped develop the master plan that established the foundation for Smyrna’s current park system, and he plans to continue investing in local parks and athletic facilities for residents of all ages.

Cole's history of community involvement includes board service with Smyrna Senior Citizens, the Boys & Girls Club of Rutherford County, North Rutherford Soccer, and the Sam Davis Home. He is a past recipient of the Optimist of the Year Award and the Victory Lifetime Achievement Award, a member of the Smyrna Rotary Club, and a charter member of the Smyrna Independent Merchants Association. Cole has two children and three grandchildren.

The Smyrna municipal election takes place Tuesday (November 3rd). Early voting begins Wednesday (October 14th) and runs through Thursday (October 29th).
