Sun. (Oct. 25, 2026) 2PM The Rutherford County Archaeological Society meets in Maney Hall at Oaklands Mansion (901 N. Maney Ave.) for an American 250 presentation about the Old City Cemetery and Murfreesboro's first church--the Old First Presbyterian. The Society's Founder and Director Laura Bartel talks about the cemetery along with the church that was taken apart, brick by brick, by Union soldiers during the Civil War. Adding to the experience, artifacts from the 2003 MTSU partial excavation of the old First Presbyterian Church will be on display — a rare chance to see tangible pieces of the city’s past. This is a free event that is open to the public. Doors open at 1:30PM with the talk at 2:00PM. After the presentation, guests will have time to browse the displays and artifacts at their own pace. It’s a relaxed, come‑and‑go opportunity to reconnect with the stories that built our community.
