MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) - A quick response by a Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO) School Resource Officer (SRO) helped save a student’s life after the student began choking at Siegel High School.

Deputy Arrington, who serves as the SRO at Siegel High School, on Wednesday, September 30th, noticed a student approaching him in apparent distress and seeking help. Recognizing that the student was choking, Deputy Arrington quickly positioned the student forward and began delivering back blows to dislodge the obstruction.

When the student continued to choke, Deputy Arrington continued his efforts until a large piece of sandwich was dislodged from the student’s throat. After confirming the student was breathing, Deputy Arrington escorted the student to the school’s medical office for further evaluation and care.

The RCSO and School Resource Officer Division supervisors commend Deputy Arrington for his quick thinking and decisive actions during the emergency. His response highlights the important role SROs play in Rutherford County schools every day, not only in maintaining safety and security but also in responding to unexpected emergencies when seconds matter.

The RCSO remains proud of Deputy Arrington’s actions and his commitment to protecting the students and staff he serves.
