MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) - Rutherford County Fire Rescue (RCFR) invites local families to learn about safety and meet emergency crews during a free Fire Prevention Open House this weekend.

The event runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday (October 17th) at Central Magnet School, located at 701 East Main Street in Murfreesboro.

Visitors can watch a live vehicle extrication demonstration featuring the Jaws of Life. The showcase gives attendees a firsthand look at the specialized tools and techniques firefighters use to free individuals trapped in motor vehicle crashes.

"We want families to meet the firefighters who serve them and learn practical ways to stay safe," said Rutherford County Fire Rescue Chief Larry Farley. "This open house is a chance to see our rescue equipment in action, ask questions and learn together. We hope everyone will come out and join us."

The family-friendly event features a hands-on Touch a Truck experience, allowing children and adults to get an up-close look at emergency apparatus and equipment. RCFR firefighters will be on hand to answer questions, share essential home safety information, and help residents protect their households.

Admission is free and open to all ages, and free hot dogs will be served during the event.
