MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) - Middle Tennessee Electric (MTE) employee volunteers teamed up with Meals of Hope to package more than 12,000 meals for local families facing food insecurity.
The major packing effort took place on Thursday (October 15th) at the MTE Central Office, located at 555 New Salem Highway in Murfreesboro. Running from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., the event marked the largest single meal-packing day of the campaign. All 12,000-plus meals prepared during the event were delivered directly to Nourish Food Bank in Murfreesboro to assist Rutherford County residents.
The service project coincided with the 10th anniversary of the Tennessee Electric Co-op Day of Service. MTE Community Relations Coordinator Jay Sanders helped coordinate the project alongside MTE employee volunteers.
Throughout the broader 10-day initiative, MTE volunteers worked together to reach an overall goal of packaging and donating 27,000 total meals to local non-profit organizations across MTE's service communities. The 12,000 meals packed during Thursday's effort served as the primary contribution toward achieving that 27,000-meal target.
