MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) - Main Street Murfreesboro will host a public town hall meeting on Tuesday, October 27th to outline plans for seeking a National Register of Historic Places designation for the downtown business district.
The meeting runs from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Main Street Murfreesboro office, located at 225 West College Street. The session is open to the public, and no RSVP is required. Main Street leaders encourage downtown business and property owners across Rutherford County to attend.
A project consultant will explain the work currently underway by Main Street Murfreesboro and detail the formal nomination process for the National Register. The presentation includes a clear information campaign explaining what the official listing does and does not do, helping owners understand how historic documentation and eligibility assessments function.
For commercial properties in the proposed district, owners may qualify to apply for a grant through the Federal Historic Tax Credit Program, which provides a 20% income tax credit for approved rehabilitation projects that contribute to the district's historic character. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask direct questions about the proposed district and its long-term benefits to the local community.
