LA VERGNE, Tenn. (WGNS) - A Thursday evening road rage confrontation in a La Vergne neighborhood ended with a firearm discharged and a local man facing a felony charge.

La Vergne Police responded to a 911 call just before 7:00 p.m. near Snowdrop Drive and Large Poppy Drive. A driver told dispatchers that another vehicle cut her off on her way home. She honked her horn and followed the car into a nearby subdivision.

Investigators say the lead vehicle stopped on Large Poppy Drive. When the victim tried to back away, the other driver got out and fired a gun into the air. The victim quickly drove to Waldron Road to call police. Officers found both of her front tires flat, but investigators determined screws in the roadway caused the flat tires, not gunfire.

Officers searched Large Poppy Drive and found a spent shell casing. Detectives tracked the suspect vehicle to a residence on Dahlia Drive. The driver admitted to officers that he panicked because he thought he was being followed. He acknowledged stepping out of his vehicle and firing one round into the air.

Police recovered the firearm as evidence and took the man into custody without incident. Officers booked him on a Class C felony charge of aggravated assault.
