PODCAST (UPDATED): Halloween Fun, New Leadership, and Upcoming Events at Rutherford County Library Branches

(UPDATED - Full Episode) PODCAST - On today's WGNS Action Line, host Scott Walker is joined by Rutherford County Library System staff members Jess Bruce, James Maxwell, and Wolf McCree. Broadcasting from the Middle Tennessee Electric Studios, the guests share insights into their respective roles at the Smyrna and Linebaugh branches. The conversation highlights the library's dedication to community engagement through diverse adult programming, emphasizing the library's evolving role as a collaborative space for the community.

The library staff details the surprising popularity of the Mahjong club, which has attracted a wide range of age groups, including younger adults who have discovered the game through mobile apps. They also discuss an array of other unique offerings that go far beyond traditional book lending, such as Dungeons & Dragons groups, horror clubs, morning yoga, and an upcoming Asian media club. By focusing on media literacy and hands-on workshops, the staff illustrates how they continually test new ideas to bring underserved demographics into the library.

The second half of the show features library news and event updates from Amanda, including the announcement of Heath Lee as the new RCLS Library Director, effective November 2, 2026. Listeners get a comprehensive rundown of upcoming fall festivities across the county, such as the Friends of Smyrna Library Local Author Fair on October 24, the Halloween-themed Ghoultastic Book Fair on October 31, and Smyrna's call for visual artists for their 2027 rotating displays.
