RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN (WGNS News) - The Rutherford County Library System is embracing the spooky season with a full lineup of Halloween festivities across its branches. Events range from pumpkin painting and costume celebrations to haunted hayrides through Barfield Park this weekend, where the MGL Library branch will lend a helping hand during two nights of Halloween fun.

Linebaugh Public Library in Murfreesboro is offering several creative and engaging activities for children, including a special B.Y.O.P. event... That was Katie Turner with Linebaugh Youth Services. The pumpkin painting event begins at 11 a.m. this Saturday, October 24, immediately following the library's Saturday morning story time, which runs from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Linebaugh is located at the intersection of South Church and Vine streets in downtown Murfreesboro. Turner also shared details about the theme of this year's pumpkin painting contest... The contest winner will be announced the following weekend during the library's Trick or Read celebration on Halloween, Saturday, October 31, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The celebration will feature movies, along with giveaways of comic books, toys and candy.

Meanwhile, the Smyrna Public Library is preparing for some Halloween excitement of its own. Branch Manager Cassandra Taylor shared plans for a special celebration designed with the community's youngest ghosts and goblins in mind...

Additional Halloween festivities include the MGL Library's participation in the Barfield Bash at Barfield Park on October 23 and 24, where library representatives will help spread Halloween cheer with candy and fall-themed activities. Patterson Park Community Center will also host its annual Toddler Spectacular on Friday, October 30, beginning at 10 a.m., offering another opportunity for families with young children to celebrate the season.

And don't forget to put on your favorite costume for the annual Trick or Treat celebration on the Historic Downtown Murfreesboro Square on Friday, October 30, from 3 to 5 p.m. Downtown businesses will welcome costumed visitors for an afternoon of Halloween fun. Gloria Christy with Shacklett's Photography, located directly across from the Rutherford County Courthouse, told WGNS about the upcoming day...

Earlier in the week, the Rutherford County Traffic Safety Task Force will host a free, family-friendly Trunk or Treat event on Tuesday, October 27, beginning at 5 p.m. The event will take place on Samsonite Boulevard near the Tennessee Highway Patrol Driver Services Center. Children will have an opportunity to meet local first responders, get an up-close look at emergency vehicles and, of course, collect plenty of Halloween candy.

With activities scheduled throughout Rutherford County, families will have plenty of opportunities to enjoy Halloween festivities, show off their costumes and collect a few sweet treats along the way.
