MURFREESBORO, TN (WGNS) - Young readers and their families will have a chance to meet an acclaimed illustrator next month when local author and artist Valerie Hamill visits the Linebaugh Public Library for a book signing and sales event. Hamill will be at the library on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., signing copies of Here’s to the Silly Ones, a heartwarming children’s book that celebrates imagination, creativity and the joy of being different.

The book pairs Hamill’s illustrations with writer Seth Standley’s playful tribute to energetic children who are always on the move and never quite fit inside the usual lines. Through a cast of clever mice, the story encourages young readers to embrace their individuality and see silliness not as a flaw, but as a superpower.

Designed for storytime, classrooms and family reading, Here’s to the Silly Ones delivers an uplifting message about self-expression and confidence. The book invites children to be proud of what makes them unique and reminds them that a little creativity can brighten the world around them.

Hamill is no stranger to the publishing world. Her artwork has appeared in projects for publishers and organizations around the globe, including Yolimwon Publishing in Korea, Paseka Publishing in the Czech Republic, Loyola University Press, Chicago Magazine and True South Puzzle Company.

Now a Tennessee resident, Hamill lives with her husband in what she describes as a very old and needy house surrounded by two very large and messy magnolia trees. She also shares a unique personal interest: a longtime fascination with the ancient Greek historian Herodotus.

The Linebaugh appearance offers a chance for families to meet the illustrator, purchase signed copies of the book and learn more about the creative process behind its charming artwork and encouraging message.

For those planning to attend, Hamill will accept both Venmo and PayPal payments during the event.

If you're looking for a family-friendly outing and a chance to celebrate the power of imagination, this upcoming visit to Linebaugh Public Library may be just the ticket.
