MURFREESBORO, TN (WGNS) - Cool fall temperatures and a festive Halloween atmosphere set the stage for two memorable evenings Friday and Saturday (Oct. 23-24, 2026) as families from across Rutherford County gathered at Barfield Crescent Park for the annual Barfield Bash. Hosted by the Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation Department, the popular event once again transformed the park into a Halloween destination packed with activities for visitors of all ages. From 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. each night, families enjoyed trick-or-treating, carnival games, costume contests, cakewalks, hayrides, food trucks and plenty of seasonal entertainment.

Among the biggest draws was the return of Old Scream Road. Once darkness fell over the park, thrill-seekers boarded hay wagons for a frightening ride through the wooded back trails of Barfield Crescent Park. Featuring more intense scares and surprises than in previous years, the attraction proved to be a favorite stop for those looking to add a little fright to their Halloween weekend.

For younger children and families seeking a gentler experience, the Not-So-Haunted Hayride offered an adventure through the forest with a storybook theme. Riders encountered familiar characters, including Goldilocks, although organizers added a few twists along the route to keep guests entertained.

The Avenue of Treats remained one of the most popular areas of the event as children collected candy and goodies from community participants. Nearby, carnival-style games gave youngsters the opportunity to earn Ghost Bucks and redeem them for prizes. Costume contests showcased creative Halloween outfits, while cakewalks offered participants a chance to take home sweet rewards.

Food trucks lined portions of the park, providing snacks, meals and refreshments as families gathered with friends and neighbors to enjoy the autumn evening.

Barfield Bash has become one of Murfreesboro's largest family-oriented Halloween celebrations, and this year's turnout appeared to continue that tradition. By blending children's activities, trick-or-treating opportunities, family entertainment and haunted attractions, the event once again offered something for everyone.

With laughter filling the park, children racing between games and the occasional scream echoing from Old Scream Road, Barfield Crescent Park once again proved why Barfield Bash remains one of Murfreesboro's favorite fall traditions. For many local families, it was the perfect way to celebrate the Halloween season together.
