MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) - A vehicle struck the U.S. Post Office building at 825 South Church Street at 11:14 a.m. on Monday (October 26th), sending one person to the hospital and prompting a major emergency response.
Murfreesboro Police Department (MPD) traffic unit officers said an elderly female was parked in front of the location when she unintentionally drove forward, striking the structure. Emergency personnel reported no serious visible injuries, but responders transported the female to the hospital for observation.
Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department (MFRD) personnel treated the individual on the scene for non-life-threatening injuries before Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services (RCEMS) transported the patient.
MFRD crews quickly stabilized the building by erecting temporary structural supports, known as shores. Fire personnel coordinated directly with Building Codes officials to determine the proper placement for the shoring equipment.
MFRD dispatched several specialized apparatus to secure the scene, including Ladder 1, Rescue 4, Structural Collapse Rescue, Safety 1, Safety 2, Battalion Chief 2, and Car 120.
The post office remains open to Rutherford County customers, though patrons currently face limited access while personnel address the building damage.
