An 18-year old man on a bicycle was shot on Monday night at 11:30 in Murfreesboro. So far, an arrest has not been made.
The victim says he was talking to two females while standing over his bike at the intersection of State Street and University when all of a sudden he felt pain under his left arm. The pain started at the same time he heard what sounded like a gunshot. He told police he saw blood under his arm at which point he was driven to the emergency Room at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital.
Police talked to the victim in the hospital where they learned little about the shooter. In fact, the victim was unable to identify anyone who may have fired the shot. The report on file with the M-P-D shows that officers asked him multiple times who could have targeted him, but he did not know.
The man was treated for the gunshot wound and had to undergo surgery to remove a fragment from the bullet left in his side. The injury was not life threatening.
No arrests have been made and no suspects have been named. The case has been turned over to detectives.
