This is a somewhat unusual story… News channel 2 in Nashville paid a visit to Murfreesboro to cover a news story. While here, a Poplar Avenue man allegedly stole a bag of the news crew’s equipment. When one of the WKRN employees realized the bag of broadcast equiptment was gone, they turned around and headed back to their last stop.
According to a police incident report, 46-year old Samuel Keith Summers allegedly admitted to the news crew that he stole their equipment. He told them that he had sold it for $20. One of the crew members faked a call to his boss and in reality called the police. Officers arrived and Summers reportedly told police, “I took it, it’s by the tree at 3rd Baptist Church.” Summers was also charged with Public Intoxication.
The equipment that was recovered is worth over $25,000. It allows for TV stations to broadcast “LIVE” on location, sending a signal back to the TV station using the internet.
