Rutherford County Sheriff's Deputy Michael Sparkman was off duty and eating out at a local restaurant with his family when a person at a nearby table started choking. Deputy Sparkman instinctively performed the Heimlich maneuver and is credited with saving the man's life. Deputy Michael Sparkman works in the booking department of the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center.
