Shawn Templeton of Shave Barber Lounge, 130 North Church St. volunteers his time and services to provide free haircuts to the youth detained at the Rutherford County Juvenile Detention Center.
Templeton volunteers between 4-6 hours per month to cut hair at the facility but that’s not all. Templeton explains to the young people the process of becoming a licensed Barber, and shares his experiences of building and running his own business. Templeton emphasized that he wants to change children’s lives. “I want to let the kid’s know there is something else out there,” Templeton said.
“I like to give back to the community. When I cut the kids hair it can help change their life. I like to give them something to look forward to,” Shawn Templeton said.
A young man who recently received a haircut while in juvenile detention said “The Barber is very talented and thoughtful. I appreciate him taking time out of his day to cut our hair. I feel more confident in myself when I have my hair cut.” Without him, the children in juvenile detention would not have access to haircuts during their stay.
Kacye Watson, Juvenile Detention Programming Coordinator said “Shawn provides a great service to the kid’s incarcerated at the Juvenile Detention Center. He is dedicated to helping our troubled youth.”
Shawn Templeton will be recognized for his volunteer service to the children of Rutherford County at the Rutherford County Juvenile Services Center Open House on November 8th, 2013.
