The Myrtle Lord MGL Library in Patterson Park Community Center is being studied for expansion, Patterson Park Community Center Superintendent Tom Sage told Murfreesboro’s Parks and Recreation Commission this week.
Just where the expansion will be made, and by how much, has yet to be determined firmly, Parks and Recreation Department Director Lanny Goodwin said, and the cost will be minimal.
The expansion would be made under the watchful eye of Linebaugh Public Library Director. “We’re seeing this as a great program,” Linebaugh Public Librarian Rita Shacklett told the commission. “ ... we would like to move forward with this initiative.
“We want to expand the library,” she said. “As Tom (Sage, Patterson Park Community Center Superintendent) was saying, this would be a good thing; to offer children’s programming.
“They just don’t have the space for programs,” she said. “This is a wonderful opportunity.” The expansion will be very low cost, Goodwin said. A contractor will be called to estimate the construction cost, which will include moving a door and installing a bit of drywall.
Shackett agreed saying more books could be made available and children would have a place to study. “It’s really tight in there now,” Goodwin observed.
