During Next Election: In Murfreesboro You Can Vote to Change the Election Date from April to November

Dec 20, 2013 at 07:03 am by Bryan Barrett

The Murfreesboro City Council has approved a referendum to allow voters the right to vote to change the date of the city election. Yes, that sounds somewhat confusing.

On April 15th during the next election, voters will have the opportunity to move the 2016 election date from April to November. The motion to approve the referendum was passed 6 to 1 with councilman Doug Young voting against it. The motion was put fourth by Councilman Eddie Smotherman. The move will save the city about $46,000 in the future if passed by the voters. In addition to saving money, it will likely make it easier for some to make it to the polls, because the election date will not fall on tax day. Again, the date change will now be up to the voters.
