Severe thunderstorms pushed through Rutherford County just after 9:30 Saturday night. They brought high winds and tornado warnings for a couple of hours. The Rutherford County Sheriff's Department reported before the storm rolled in power transformers being blown down by the high winds.
We can also confirm a 19 passenger plane was blown onto another and damaged at the Smyrna / Rutherford County Airport. There were no injuries as no one was aboard either plane.
The Christmas tree in front of the Rutherford County Courthouse, like many residents' outside decorations, fell victim to the wind. The city's tree was blown sideways, but not completely to the ground.
Damage was scattered, but spread over the county. The sign to the enterance to Siegel Soccer Park on Cherry Lane was blown down and several trees were downed. We captured some pictures from the damage and have them on WGNSRadio.com. While the area was under a tornado warning, there were no reports of a tornado touchdown or funnel clouds.
